Georgia State University President Mark P. Becker and Ms. Laura Voisinet  joined the GSU Foundation in hosting a celebratory dinner for more than 200 Presidents Society donors and friends recently at the Cherokee Town Club in Buckhead.

Among those in attendance were Parker H. and Janet Petit, Bobby Lee Cook, and Herman J. Russell—members of the Presidents Society Leaders Circle.  Hosts for the evening were club members Wayne and Rubye Reid, longtime supporters of GSU.

President Becker and Vice President for Development Walter Massey thanked the group for its generosity, which supports professorships, scholarships, fellowships, athletics and more.

Foundation Board Chairman Bill Balzer opened by toasting the nontraditional students at GSU and those who support them. Balzer retired from UPS and later received his bachelor’s degree from GSU’s College of Arts and Sciences.

The audience watched a brief video in which several funding recipients expressed gratitude for opportunities at GSU, such as executive mentoring, artistic freedom and cutting-edge research.

The video featured student recipients Paul Stephen Benjamin (the Winnie Chandler Art and Design Fellow, Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design) and Natalia Silvestre Long (a Bergeron Women in Technology Scholar, J. Mack Robinson College of Business).

Mary Radford, the Marjorie Knowles Professor of Law, and Jian-Dong Li, Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar. represented GSU faculty recipients.

Named to honor the past leadership at GSU, the Presidents Society recognizes donors who give $1,000 or more annually, and those whose cumulative giving is $100,000 or more.
