B.A. ’21, Media Entrepreneurship
Why did you choose Georgia State?
I love how GSU empowers students to create their own success story. I am a proud Panther because my unique major, Media Entrepreneurship, provides me with the resources, networks, and freedom to produce my own. As a student of many passions and curiosities, I am able to pursue all of my interests, especially entrepreneurship and the film industry with gusto.
Please share some interesting facts about yourself:
- I am a woman entrepreneur. I co-founded a start-up business with my sister that launched in July 2017. It is called Softea (@softea.atl) and is a mobile bubble tea and matcha cart. Our drinks use the finest ingredients: all natural, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, organic, and ATL local-friendly.
- I was voted “Ms. Best Dressed” my senior year of high school! I felt absolutely honored as my graduating class, which was around 800 people, recognized me for my passion for fashion.
- I am the ATL ambassador for a national “Style Squad” for “Bustle,” a popular NYC company, and Walmart. I worked with incredible creatives and they featured me in their digital magazine! Super memorable.
Have you encountered any significant challenges that have affected your ability to attend college?
During my senior year of high school, my family faced extremely challenging adversities. My family suffered through a home burglary, closure of all family businesses, and losing our family home. (Spoiler Alert: I am in college and my family overcame that mountain!) As I prepared to enter GSU, I worked long hours to accumulate finances. I was also fortunate enough to meet Damien Mills and Andrea Smith of Georgia State’s Scholarship Resource Center. They became my heroes by helping me receive a scholarship. This scholarship allowed me to focus on my education by financially providing for school, a meal plan, and a roof over my head.
What has receiving the Women’s Philanthropy Initiative Scholarship meant to you?
This scholarship has given me financial security and educational opportunity. It has affirmed God’s provision in my life and inspires me to work hard every day. I have made it a goal to become a donor within the next ten years so I can give back what I have received.
What words of gratitude would you like to express to your scholarship donors?
I am so immensely thankful for their generous support. I hope they are proud to see that their gift has been a worthwhile investment.
