Why Georgia State?
The central location of the campus, the strong support system for students, and the diversity of the programs and resources, all led me to believe this university was where I could grow and flourish. Now that I know GSU’s top priority is securing funding for scholarships, the rightness of my choice has been confirmed.
Please share a few interesting facts about yourself:
- My family migrated from the Dominican Republic four years ago.
- We moved to Georgia because of a great community around us, the state’s beauty, and the business opportunities Atlanta offers.
- Before deciding to major in Economics, I was seriously considering becoming a professional violinist. I have been playing the violin since I was 5.
Have you encountered any significant challenges that have affected your ability to attend college?
Scholarships are giving me the opportunity to pursue my degree. Each semester, the dread and fear of not being able to attend college because of economic factors is real and constant. This is a burden on my family and me. Also, as a rather recent migrant family, the system is somewhat unknown to my parents. Therefore, the American college experience is new to us all, and it has been my responsibility to learn, understand and succeed in an alien environment.
What has receiving the Women’s Philanthropy Initiative Scholarship meant to you?
Receiving this scholarship fills me with hope and motivation. It has allowed me to pay for my spring semester tuition and to invest in school supplies that enhance my educational experience.
What words of gratitude would you like to express to your scholarship donors?
The sole reason I am able to attend college is because of the generosity of donors who have provided for the future of students like me. Without this support, the education I am now receiving would be nothing more than a dream. Many thanks and infinite gratitude to everyone involved.
