I’m pleased to share the 2020 Report on Giving, which details the enormous impact donors over the last year have had on the lives of Georgia State students as well as our mission to provide high-quality education and conduct world-class research. The report includes gifts the university received from July 2019 to June 2020.
You’ll read about determined students whose success hinged on philanthropic support and the donors who made it possible.
The 2020 spring semester and 2020 fiscal year each concluded in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and the outpouring of support our donors and friends provided in such a pivotal time was inspiring and indispensable. The full, qualitative impact of their generosity is immense, varied and ongoing, and can’t be recounted in one report. But our numbers speak volumes: Despite the rapid shift to distance learning and the unprecedented stress our students, staff and faculty faced, they persevered in record ways. Class attendance increased, and our graduation rate hit an all-time high.
The era of Georgia State’s greatest growth — in student enrollment, graduation, research funding, national recognition and more — also occurred in the midst of crisis, after the 2008 recession. The unremitting dedication our university community showed then gives me assurance now: With our brand of determination and help from donors and friends, Georgia State will again emerge from a challenging period stronger than ever and poised to rise even higher.
