Georgia State University Library will transform the C Lot parking area under Library North into a 19,000-square-foot student-focused Study Commons.

KEY FEATURES

SEATING

By creating space for approximately 200 students, the commons will relieve pressure on other seating areas in Library North, Library South and the Link.

RESPONSIVENESS

The new commons is a response to specific requests from the student body to increase late-night hours. This new space will allow the library flexibility to increase hours moving forward.

SECURITY

A key benefit of the commons will be its own entrance, allowing for a more secure environment during the late-night hours with personnel focused on the commons.

INCLUSIVITY

The new commons will be designed with campus needs and accessibility in mind by providing gender-neutral restrooms and a lactation room for new parents.

CAFÉ

Saxbys Coffee will open a new, publicly-accessible café to the new Study Commons, allowing for walk-up traffic directly from the greenway and from inside the building.

ROOMS

Flexible space will meet a variety of needs including quiet space, active study areas and group study rooms.

The University Library is transforming another downtown space to provide Panthers with more room and flexibility to learn, connect, collaborate and create for each step on their path to a degree.

The addition of the Study Commons to Library North is the centerpiece of the University Library’s efforts to reimagine and expand its physical environments so students have spaces that meet their diverse needs when researching, studying, meeting and collaborating.
